Auckland cat lovers will soon be able to sip their flat whites and lattes at one of New Zealand's first cat cafes. BaristaCats Cafe will open its doors in December at Britomart, central Auckland.Lawyer Julia Whitehead, fell in love with the concept of the animal-friendly establishments during a recent trip to Thailand. She also recognised the growing numbers of city dwellers who don't have the space or ability to keep their own pets. The cafe will have a shared dining area and an adjoining "lounge space" where customers can enjoy the company of 10 in-house tabbies. All rescue cats, they'll roam the cafe with plenty of opportunities for customers to interact with them.Ms Whitehead has worked closely with Auckland Council, the Ministry for Primary Industries and the SPCA during the project to ensure a hygienic environment for customers as well as a safe environment for the cats.
