Case studyPit Bull Terriers - its a big debateAs recent media articles show and as we have posted on our Facebook page there is nothing worse than a dog attack on any human. Once again the Pit Bull Terrier is in the public eye as a breed of dog not to be taken for granted. The reputation of the breed has gone full circle from heroic and domesticated pet at the start if the century to cold blooded stalker of any living thing in its path spreading fear amongst the masses of dog owners not just in America but around the world. There have been a number of Case Studies carried out by the Animals and Society organisation in America and they have monitored and delt with new owners of the dogs and there treatment and conception from the people they meet whilst in the presence of their dogs. There have been some interesting results from these studies and you can read a lot more about it by doing a Google search on them.It is a shame to have to define any breed of dog as "dangerous" but in some cases they just are. Unfortunately there is no way of stopping this sort of thing happening again, with a Pit Bull or any other powerful breed for that matter - but what we can do is try to educate people into understanding their beloved pets more before they put themsleves and others in harms way. With a better understanding of the mindset of the dog I am sure that we would see less and less of these problems. If people had a better understanding of the nature of these dogs they would think twice about keeping them. Feeling sorry for a breed that has had its reputation dragged through the mud should not warrant keeping one, particularly if the owner has no idea of its capabilities.
